Valentine Thoughts

Lately I've been busying myself working on several Valentine's swaps. Valentine's Day rates highly on my list of holidays. Something about candy & free reign with the glitter. Actually Halloween is my all time favorite. I love any reason to be able to dress in costume. In my opinion, Halloween should come weekly. Perhaps this is a testament to my closeted schizophrenia? Who knows.
The first swap is an international Valentines handmade postcard swap to spread a little love around the world. Here is a sampling of my cards in the works:

And since I still haven't gotten in touch with my swap partner for the Hanging Hearts Swap, :-(
I may now be the proud owner of my own creation, but that's ok. Amelia has had her eye on it for some time. She regularly grooms my tinsel and fawns over it dreamily with big, lustful eyes saying, "p-r-ett-y, pr-r-ett-y" as if in a trance. I actually made her one too, but she is greedy and needful and wants them all. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Oh, and by the way, the heart hangs from some nice faded & aged (translation: left out in the elements on my deck for two days prior to use) metallic pink mardi gras beads which I managed to completely chop off in my photo. You can faintly see them at the tippy-top if you squint while standing on one leg, knee-bent.

In the spirit of love that Valentine's evokes paired with the fact that Valentine's makes me see all red, not in an angry way, not to worry, :-) I wanted to share some things from around my humble abode to help get you in the spirit too....

How about a little brotherly (& sisterly) love? In case you've forgotten, she's a little bit country, he's a little bit rock n' roll! God, I loved these people.

Upon opening my Donny & Marie Osmond record box, I found some of my 45s collection (Still with their sleeves I might note. Thank you, Mom!):

Let's see. There's bound to be some good music here. I mean I know some of you lost a little respect for my musical tastes when I admitted to liking Van Halen back in the day. Maybe I can make it up to you. I am sure we can find something we'd both like to listen to. How about The J Geils Band's "Freeze Frame"? Or what about the Bee Gees "Tragedy"? Don't like those? Well, no problem. I have more where those came from. We could listen to "Valley Girl" by Frank & Moon Zappa or the "Theme from Close Encounters of the Third Kind" by John Williams. Wait! What about "Pop Muzik" by Robin Scott, "Hot Stuff" by Donna Summer or "(Love is) Thicker than Water" by Andy Gibb? Ok. Ok. The b side of John Lennon's "(Just Like) Starting Over" it is.....which is none other than "Kiss Kiss Kiss" by Yoko Ono!!! By the way. Is it just me or does anyone else notice the odd recurrence of parenthetical song titling that apparently was a prevalent trend in the 70s? I mean 2 out 9 songs I mentioned featured it. Weird!

Ok well, music isn't your thing? How about Swedish capri sun styled drinks?

Yes. I admit it. I am that person. I went to Ikea and drank these while on a shopping break. Then I kept them for decorating. Yes I know these are truly someone else's trash (or in this case my trash), but highly unlikely to be anyone else's treasure. (Just so you know, I did wash them out, thank you very much. ) :-) They have a permanent place on top of my lemonade yellow & grasshopper green hoosier.

This is my sweet one-legged doll. I've thought of naming her Lucy, but I never have. Officially she is nameless, but much loved. A friend told me she couldn't wait to see what she looked like once I got her all fixed up. Well, I guess my friend will be eternally disappointed, as I plan on keeping her this way. Dirt and all.
"Unofficial Lucy" has a knack for scaring the bejesus out of me. Just when I am least expecting it, she pops up out of nowhere. It can give you a severe case of the heebie jeebies.

I vant a pony! And now I have one! With cart at that. Look!! Look!!

I love this whole piece, but the cart alone just makes me turn well, cartwheels. (I am the queen of bad puns, sorry.) I want a piece of furniture (maybe a sofa) painted just like this cart with some beautiful red, tufted, comfy cushions that I can rest my fanny upon. (Sorry if anyone from the UK is reading this. I meant my behind, not what you call a fanny!) :-)

Here is my own handsome black stallion in all his plumed glory. Eat your heart out Walter Farley!

And last, but not least, some of my ever-changing display of vintage dishtowels. These hang off of a dish rack just above my kitchen desk. They make me happy.

I hope you will share some of your photos & stories with me soon too!
